In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to use paper in resin, which is the technique I use to make my origami earrings. I know you can make origami earrings and accessories without resin, but sealing it with resin will make it waterproofed and hardened so it can be in good condition for a long time. Let’s get started!
Another thing I want to note is that it’s important to try different types of medium and medium in your craft project. By doing this, you create more texture and dimension to it. Your craft will look more unique and original too. You can try out my easy crochet flower tutorial and combine it with your origami and paper.
Apply resin directly on paper
Paper can absorb resin and your paper will be darkened and stained. This situation looks worse on white paper. That’s why you need to seal your paper before applying resin or embedding it in resin.

Materials
- Clear Glue
- UV Resin
- Paper/Origami
- Paint brush/Toothpick
I’ll use a miniature origami crane to demonstrate in this tutorial. You can use any paper or origami you like.
How to put paper in resin/seal your paper with resin?
- Apply a thin layer of clear glue onto crane.
- Make sure you apply glue on any gaps in between surfaces. Otherwise, your paper can absorb resin through these tiny gaps. The pictures belowexplained which kind of area you should pay attention to.
- Dry your crane on silicone or any non-stick surface.
- Apply second layer of glue in the same way after the first layer of glue is dry.
- After glue is dry, apply UV resin on the bottom of crane. Cure it under UV light for 3-4 minutes. This will make the later procedure easier.
- Place masking tape on your finger tip and stick your crane on it. Press the crane onto the tape gently if you are worried it will fall.
- Apply UV resin on top of the crane. Make sure you apply resin on all surfaces, edges and gaps so that your crane will be completely and wholly hardened. Cure under UV light for 3-4 minutes.
- And it’s done!
A finger-tip sized origami will be perfect for making earrings and other accessories. Remember to add other mediums to make your earrings more unique and cute!
Why two layers of glue?
There is more chance that your paper will absorb resin if you only apply a layer of glue because it’s easier to have parts where you have missed applying glue on. However, two layers of glue will form a stronger ‘waterproof layer’ and you can fill any missing part from the first layer.
